Qualcomm Refuses to Bend in CDMA Licensing Talks with Nokia
6:20 am on May 8, 2006 | Category: Business, Mobile Devices, Cellular, Cell Phones
Wireless chipmaker, Qualcomm, is driving a hard bargain in licensing talks with Nokia, saying that will not offer the handset giant any discounts on royalties.
The companies are currently carrying out charged negotiations about the extension of their licensing agreement, allowing Nokia to use Qualcomm’s CDMA and W-CDMA chips in its mobile phones.
The chipmaker has adopted a confident bargaining strategy, and seems on the brink of obtaining the upper hand. Qualcomm executives claim that their company has a lot less to gain than Nokia does if the negotiations are unsuccessful.
