9:55 am on June 21, 2006 | Category: Messaging, Web Services
Microsoft Corp. has formally released its next generation of instant messaging clients with the launch of Windows Live Messenger earlier this week.
This is the first of several new Microsoft web services, which will be bundled together under the Windows Live brand, and used to beef up the software giant’s internet presence.
The new software builds upon MSN Messenger, which already offers IM services and free internet-based video VoIP to 240 million people around the world.
The newly launched version of Messenger has a number of enhanced features that make it easier to manage contacts and share files.
“Windows Live is a huge growth opportunity for Microsoft. The online advertising opportunity will be a big growth driver for Microsoft in the coming years as the market continues to expand,” said the software giant’s corporate vice president of marketing, Martin Taylor.
