Wireless technology firm, Qualcomm, has filed yet another legal complaint against Nokia, claiming that the Finnish handset maker has violated six of the chipmaker’s GSM patents.

In its third action against Nokia in eight months, Qualcomm has asked the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) to ban the import of several phones which it claims are in infringement of the patents. If all goes according to plan, the ITC will begin investigating the case next month, and aim for a court hearing in the first half of 2007.

Nokia defended itself and its products in a statement about the issue, saying that it will respond “as necessary” to Qualcomm’s legal attempts.

“These repetitive legal actions, over GSM technologies that have been in the market for many years, reflect Qualcomm’s concern over the current 3G UMTS patent negotiations,” the statement claims, implying that Nokia has gained the upper hand in talks to extend its licensing agreement with Qualcomm, which is set to expire in April 2007.
