Survey Paints Picture of Average VoIP User

A recent study by TeleGeography Research made an effort to paint a picture of the average VoIP subscriber, by running a survey of 900 U.S. households in the first quarter of this year.

The results suggest that VoIP subscribers tend to be married and employed full-time, with household income of over $50,000. Another common thread was that most tended to make a lot of long distance calls, resulting in high bills from their former telephone providers.

The survey also found that while “pure-play” VoIP offerings from companies like Vonage and 8×8 have been very popular among early adopters, cable companies are now attracting a growing number of new mainstream customers to their digital phone offerings.

    1. About 1 month ago @ dinner I received an automated call asking for a few minutes of my time. A friendly computer generated voice then proceeded to ask me if I know what VoIP is. Being in the industry, I was all ears- Once I answered the question “yes” I was then was interrogated by a friendly voice one could only assume was generated by AT&T’s Natural voices Program.

      I can only assume I was part of this survey-

    2. I’ve not figured out why companies such as Vonage have not advertised their greatest asset over cable providers – the ability to use a non-cable company provider on any broadband outlet. I have used Vonage for several years. I can take the Vonage adapter with me and have my phone number anywhere a broadband outlet is available – and, can also makes unlimited calls. This is a great benefit to travellers.
