Mozilla Prepares to Launch Firefox 2.0 Beta
6:00 am on July 12, 2006 | Category: Web Services, Software
The Mozilla Foundation is preparing to launch the beta version of Firefox 2.0, the next major release of its popular web browser.
Mozilla plans to make the newly updated browser available for download later this week, in hopes that software developers will test its features and compatibility with existing Firefox extensions.
“We have over 1,000 extensions already, but they may not work with this new version,” explained Mozilla Europe president, Tristan Nitot.
Nitot wouldn’t comment on new features that might appear with the final version of Firefox 2.0, noting that many changes would likely need to be made. Unconfirmed reports indicate, however, that the new browser will come with a built-in antiphishing tool, as well as an improved search box, integrated spellchecker, and enhanced RSS support.
