Nokia’s Sales and Profits Remain Strong
6:00 am on July 21, 2006 | Category: Business, Cell Phones, Mobile Devices
The world’s top handset maker, Nokia, reported its second-quarter financial results on Thursday, meeting analysts expectations of a sharp increase in profits and sales.
The Finnish company’s sales reached 9.8 billion Euros for the quarter, compared to 8.1 billion Euros in the same period a year earlier. Profits were also up at 0.23 Euros/share, as opposed to 0.17/share in Q2 2005.
Nokia was responsible for about 34% of the world’s handset sales last quarter, shipping a total of about 78.4 phones, and achieving 29% growth over last year’s figure.
This increase is mostly due to the handset maker’s early entrance into developing markets, such as India and China, as well as the success of its N-Series cell phones in developed countries.
