Verizon Launches 50 Mbps FiOS Broadband Service in New England States
5:30 am on July 19, 2006 | Category: Internet, Telecom Services
Verizon Communications has launched a new high-end FiOS internet service in the eastern U.S. states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Clearly designed for power users, the residential service comes with a very impressive 50 Mbps of downstream bandwidth, and 5 Mbps of data transfer upstream. The business version, meanwhile, offers even higher upload speeds with up to 10 Mbps of bandwidth.
This new offering is now available to residential customers at a cost of $89.96 per month in New York (on a 1-year plan). It is considerably more pricey in New Jersey and Connecticut, where it goes for $139.95 and $159.95, respectively.
By launching this vastly improved new “ultra-broadband†option, Verizon is leveraging its newly constructed fiber optic broadband and television network to compete with cable operators on the quality front.
