One of the world’s most versatile communications celebrates its fifteenth birthday this month, prompting many to look back on past accomplishments, and look forward to the future.

The World Wide Web as we know it became a public medium in August of 1991, making it possible for people all around the world to communicate and share information in various ways, unimaginable just a few years before.

The BBC has created an interesting timeline of the web’s astounding progress over the past decade and a half, documenting the rise and fall of some of the most innovative trends and companies in the history of technology.
