Apple Computer Inc.’s wildly popular iTunes music service could be its key into the homes of consumers, allowing it to crack the home audio and video markets well ahead of its competitors, according to a recent report from ABI Research.

With more than 1 billion songs now downloaded via iTunes, adding support for the Apple music service simply makes sense for third-part consumers electronics manufacturers, researchers explained in the report.

“iTunes could be a ‘Trojan Horse’ through which Apple can enter the home market sooner than the competition,” commented ABI analyst, Vamsi Sistla, in a statemnet. “I think we will soon see more line-powered consumer audio devices — high-end audio devices with AV (audio-video) receivers, and multi-room audio systems — adding support for iTunes to their current support for iPod.”

The same companies that have been manufacturing accessories for Apple’s own iPod device for years, are beginning to see the potential in bringing iTunes to their own products, and developing a new way to cash in on Apple’s unprecedented success.
