Microsoft Backs Off on Renaming Internet Explorer 7
5:30 am on August 8, 2006 | Category: Web Services, Software
The world’s top software developer, Microsoft Corp., has scrapped a plan to rename the Windows Vista version of its Internet Explorer 7 web browser.
The company had planned to call the new browser Internet Explorer 7+, alluding to a number of platform-specific security features that work only with Windows Vista.
Adding a plus sign to the browser’s name, however, seems to be an upsetting proposition to many users, with a great deal of negative feedback being left at Microsoft’s IEBlog.
“The feedback we got on the blog was overwhelming – many of you didn’t like it,” conceded Microsoft executive Tony Chor.
The software giant now says it will stick to its original naming scheme, referring to the new browser versions as Internet Explorer for Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista.
