Motorola Continues to Gain Ground Against Nokia

America’s top cell phone manufacturer, Motorola Inc., gained ground against Nokia in the global market last quarter, due to strong sales of the RAZR, SLVR, and MING handsets.
Motorola’s global market share rose sharply to 21.9%, compared to 20.3% in the first quarter, according to market research firm, Gartner Inc. Nokia’s share reportedly declined slightly from 34% to 33.6% in the same period.
The U.S.-based handset maker has now outpaced Nokia’s unit sales growth for five straight quarters, and this effect could become even more noticeable when the much-anticipated Motophone begins shipping next month in a number of developing markets.
“Motorola gained across the board,” commented Garner analyst, Carolina Milanesi. “The RAZR is coming down in price and broadening its target market, and the Motofone combines usability and design at an affordable price.”
