Nokia E62: Big Competition for the Motorola Q?
6:45 am on August 25, 2006 | Category: Cell Phones, Email, Mobile Devices, PDAs
The world’s biggest handset maker, Nokia, is currently producing a hot new smartphone that will likely end up in direct competition with the Motorola Q.
The Nokia E62 will be a GSM-based phone, meaning that it will likely be offered in the U.S. market by either T-Mobile or Cingular Wireless. This handheld easily matches the Q in terms of both performance and features, offering the ability to create documents, read PDF files, and flawlessly receive push emails.
A built-in EDGE cellular data modem makes it possible to surf the internet using Nokia’s very desktop-like mobile web browser. Although isn’t the fastest GSM-based mobile data standard, it is sufficient for basic browsing, and is available in most major North American cities and towns (unlike HSDPA).
Overall, the Nokia E62 performs very will and offers a strong mix of features, but its Symbian-based operating system could be a weakness in the U.S. business market. Although it is the most widely used mobile OS in the European market, Symbian is far less popular than Windows Mobile 5.0 among American enterprise customers.
