Broadband phone provider, Vonage, is attempting to improve its position in the American VoIP market by bundling its service with a D-Link router.

The VWR Wireless-B/G Broadband Router is available to new Vonage subscribers at a price of $59.99, after a $40 instant rebate.

The router is specially designed to serve as a VoIP gateway, and is based on the Texas Instruments TNETV1060 chipset. As the name implies, it includes a built-in Wireless-B/G access point, as well as a 4-port wired Ethernet switch, and two standard telephone jacks.

Vonage’s strategy of attracting new subscribers with discounts on consumer electronics products closely mirrors that of competitor Packet8, which recently started offering free cordless phone systems to customers that pay annually.

    1. I think it’s a good marketing strategy to offer the wireless router – especially to residential customers. One less thing to buy and it makes the voip service package more attractive.

    2. Vonage is consistently looking for ways to help businesses and customers. This is just another one. The less clutter, happier customers.
