Yahoo Inc. is reportedly getting close to forging a content partnership with Orange, a major European mobile phone carrier.
The search giant already has a deal with UK-based wireless operator, 3, which allows its search and portal applications to come pre-installed on some handsets. Yahoo will need to make more headway in the European market, however, if it hopes to compete with leading rival, Google Inc.
In the last couple of years, more and more internet companies have been realizing that the next big battle for information supremacy will be fought around the rapidly evolving mobile internet. As the population as a whole increasingly demands information on the go, and an industry begins to emerge around mobile advertising, it seems clear that there will be big money to be made in the exciting world of wireless search.
