Analysys Report Predicts Massive Growth for Cellular VoIP
6:30 am on September 28, 2006 | Category: Business, VoIP, Mobile Devices, Cell Phones
Cellular VoIP services will gain a strong position in both the Voice over IP and wireless communication markets, according to a recent study by Analysys.
The research firm boldly predicts that revenue from IP voice services delivered over cell phone networks will surpass fixed-line VoIP revenues by the year 2012, generating sales of $18.6 billion in the U.S. and $7.3 billion in Western Europe.
Analysys also expects cellular networks to eclipse other wireless broadband technologies such as Wi-Fi and WiMAX in the wireless VoIP market. Although it will remain useful to some niche enterprise users, Voice over WLAN will take a back seat to 3G and 4G cellular standards in the consumer market, the report predicts.
