Apple Computer released three critical security updates last week to patch vulnerabilities in its wireless networking drivers for desktop and notebook computers.

These latest security updates, labeled “AirPort Update 2006-001″ and “Security Update 2006-005,” are designed to protect Apple’s AirPort drivers, as well as third-party wireless applications, from the possibility of hackers injecting malicious code over a Wi-Fi network.

Although there are no known exploits currently “in the wild” for these vulnerabilities, a Danish security tracker called Securina has rated the updates as “highly critical.” Unlike Microsoft, Apple does not provide ratings for its own security updates.

The updates are currently available at Apple’s support website, or through the built-in update mechanism of Mac OS X.
