Nokia to Call New Cell Phones by Name, Not Model Number
6:45 am on September 10, 2006 | Category: Business, Cell Phones, Mobile Devices
The world’s largest cell phone maker has announced plans to call new handsets by simple names, rather than model numbers, to relieve customer confusion, and better compete with the likes of the Motorola RAZR and LG Chocolate.
“What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers,” explained Nokia’s chief marketing officer, Keith Pardy.
It is unclear whether this new branding strategy will be applied to all of Nokia’s new handsets or just a few, but the success of the plan will ultimately hinge on the company’s ability to come up with catchy and original names that will evoke an emotional response.
