Pipex Acquires Two Broadband Competitors for £36 Million

British ISP, Pipex, has beefed up its broadband user base by purchasing the high-speed internet businesses of two competitors.
The company has paid £12 million for the 110,000 customers of Cable & Wireless’s Bulldog broadband service, and an additional £24 million for Toucan, another ISP boasting 185,000 customers.
In addition to the increase in market share, the acquisitions will give Pipex more local loop unbundling (LLU) opportunities, ultimately allowing it to become a triple-play (internet, telephone, and wireless) service provider.
“These acquisitions will enable Pipex to provide triple-play in the UK market by the end of 2007,” said Pipex chairman Peter Dubens. “Broadband, voice and mobile will be bundled and offered to our entire base in the coming months.”
