Likely in an attempt to capitalize on Apple’s recent iTV announcement and iPhone patent filing, Skype has chosen the perfect time to announce the beta launch of its latest Mac-compatible VoIP software.

The beta version of Skype for Mac 2.0 features full cross-platform support, meaning that those who download it should have no problem making free online phone calls to their Windows-using friends and associates.

The new software is the first Mac-compatible Skype release to include video calling functionality, allowing those users to see a full-screen live video feed of the person they’re talking to.

Skype, which launched the Windows version of its video-enabled VoIP software late last year, has made full details about the Mac beta software available on its website.
