America’s #3 cell phone carrier, Sprint Nextel, has launched the first wireless PC card for its EV-DO Revision A mobile data service.

Although Revision A technology isn’t yet commercially available, Sprint hopes to begin rolling out the new network by the end of this year. In the mean time, the new Novatel Merlin S720 Sprint Mobile Broadband card is backwards compatible with the standard EV-DO networks that are accessible in most U.S. cities.

“Sprint has reached its next leadership milestone in the mobile broadband arena once again delivering on the goals and promises made to our customers earlier this year,” said Sprint’s vice president of product marketing, Danny Bowman. “With the introduction of the nation’s first EV-DO Revision A-capable device today we are ensuring that customers are able to take advantage of the nation’s most advanced mobile broadband network to do what they want, when they want and where they want.”

The Novatel Merlin S720 comes with a suggested retail price tag of $249.99, but it is available for as little as $99.99 if you’re willing to sign-up for Sprint’s mobile data service on a two-year contract.
