Canada’s #2 telecom carrier, Telus Corp., has announced plans to invest $600 million in improving its broadband ISP networks in British Columbia, Alberta, and parts of Quebec, between now and 2009.

The Vancouver-based telephone and DSL giant says that it will install advanced internet equipment in over 7,000 locations, and run fiber optic cables closer to the homes of customers.

“Telus’ broadband build is an important investment in our future, and in the future of British Columbia, Alberta, and eastern Quebec,” commented the company’s president and CEO, Darren Entwistle, in a statement.

The company says that the new infrastructure will allow it to offer faster broadband internet packages, with data transfer speeds of 15 to 30 Mbps, “and beyond.”
