Verizon to Challenge Comcast with IPTV Service in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Verizon Communications has announced plans to deploy its fiber optic IPTV service in Indiana for the first time next year, going head-to-head with the state’s cable incumbent, Comcast.
The new service will be delivered over Verizon’s fiber-to-the-premises high-speed network, and will include standard cable television service, as well as advanced IPTV features like multi-room digital video recording, Video-On-Demand, and on-screen traffic and weather information.
The first market in Indiana to see Verizon’s IPTV service will be Fort Wayne, a Comcast stronghold where 75% of television subscribers bundle their cable with either high-speed internet or digital phone service.
There is little doubt that the town will be a tough nut to crack for Verizon, but with 20 HDTV channels and over 3000 on-demand movies, the new IPTV service will pose some strong competition to say the least.
