Virgin Mobile Launches Competitively Priced Mobile TV Offering

UK-based cell phone provider, Virgin Mobile, has commercially launched a new interactive mobile television service, powered by BT Movio.
Virgin Mobile TV, as the service is called, is available on the MVNO’s first Windows-based smartphone product, the HTC Lobster 700. For existing Virgin customers, this hot new service is surprisingly cheap at just £5/month, after a three-month free trial.
Subscribers will gain access to BBC One, ITV1, Channel 4, and E4 from the palms of their hands. DAB radio broadcasts and a seven-day interactive program guide are also included at no extra charge.
This incredibly competitive pricing strategy suggests that Virgin probably won’t make much profit from the service, at least for the time being. Instead, it will serve as an added incentive for new customers to sign voice and data contracts with Britain’s best-known wireless reseller.
