AT&T to Offer Home Security Service for $9.95/Month

AT&T announced last week that it would soon be launching a home security service, which will allow customers to monitor their homes via a cell phone or broadband-enabled computer.
The new service will be available to broadband internet customers throughout the U.S., and to Cingular Wireless mobile phone users, at a cost of $9.95/month. This price includes unlimited video monitoring, and automatic alerts in the event of a security threat.
Customers will have to pay a $199 starter fee, which includes a special camera, wireless door or window sensor, and the software and hardware necessary to connect these devices to a home network.
By offering its own security option, AT&T is hoping to build customer loyalty, and increase the size of its potential service bundle. The company asserts that it will never have the capability to view the inside of a customer’s home, and that data transmitted by the service will not be monitored in any way.

If it offers unlimited video monitoring, how can you assert that you will never be able to view the inside of the house?
This service if it allows the homeowner to view the intrusion and intruder will be very valuable to me. That way I can tell if the intruder is just the pest controll person or whatever.
We would use it for our lake home that we are only able to get to on weekends, vacation, etc.
