The Boost Mobile division of Sprint Nextel doesn’t think that SMS messaging should be limited to mobile phones, and is launching a new service allowing landline telephones to receive text messages.

The new Text to Landline, powered by TeleMessage, converts messages into audio format, and delivers them to any telephone, at a cost of $0.10 to the sender. Receiving a message is totally free.

“Text to Landline is very simple for our customers to use and allows them to communicate using a method they prefer,” said Boost Mobile’s vices president of product development, Neil Lindsay, noting that not all users are comfortable with wireless text messaging.
