A recent survey by RVA Market Research suggests that consumer electronics manufacturers are benefiting considerably from the deployment of fiber optic broadband technology in the United States.
The data shows that 15% of customers on the new FTTH networks have purchased a high-definition television specifically to take advantage of HD-IPTV programming. A large percentage of customers also report purchasing new wireless networking equipment, computers, and other electronics to use with their new fiber optic connections.
The roll out of Fiber-to-the-Home technology is exciting to the many consumers who want higher internet speeds, more digital television channels, and the ability to bundle these services with a single provider. These same customers are also likely be interested in futuristic broadband applications such as advanced entertainment and real-time video communication, according to RVA principal researcher, Michael Render.
“It appears that consumer electronics makers and broadband application developers will be big winners with next-generation broadband,” Render commented. “The deployment of fiber deeper in the network is opening up a vast array of potential new revenue streams.”
