Jajah Expected to Reach One Million Mobile VoIP Users by Year’s End

Discount mobile VoIP provider, Jajah, is expected to sign up its millionth customer before the end of this year, according to the Austrian company’s co-founders.

“We are confident that we will have better than 1 million paying customers by the end of year,” said co-founder, Daniel Mattes, in an interview last weekend, noting that Jajah’s customer base “is already close to a million.”

Mattes wouldn’t give any exact statistics, but he did mention that users are divided quite evenly between North America, Europe, and Asia.

Installing the Jajah software allows customers to make long distance calls on their mobile or landline phones, at deeply discounted rates, or at no cost when calling other Jajah users. The downloadable application works by making local calls at either end of a call, then connecting them over the internet.

There is little doubt that demand for this service will continue to grow for the foreseeable future, due to the high roaming and long distance calling fees associated with mobile phones. Jajah is also likely to face an increasing wave of competition, however, as new mobile VoIP providers like Talkster come out of the woodwork in the months and years to come.

    1. For calls initiated through your computer, Jajah does not utilize downloaded software or an application or installation or special hardware. All that is needed is a browser. You enter the number you want to call, then click “call.”

      For calls from a cellphone *without* the computer, you download from Jajah a Java or Symbian applet for use with certain models of cellphones.
