Mozilla Launches Firefox 2.0 as Alternative to Internet Explorer 7
7:00 am on October 25, 2006 | Category: Web Services, Software
The Mozilla Corporation has formally released the much-anticipated Firefox 2.0 web browser, likely hoping to upstage Microsoft’s recent launch of Internet Explorer 7.0.
Firefox 2.0 comes with a number of enhancements to security, tabbed browsing, and performance, as well as built-in spell checking, and an anti-phishing feature. Support for JavaScript 1.7 and better integration of RSS feeds are also among the new additions.
The new version of Firefox has been in beta testing since March, and was originally set to launch sometime in August. A number of last minute bugs and security issues, however, delayed the launch by two months.
Firefox 2.0 is now available on the Mozilla Corporation’s website, and works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux-based computers.
