Religious Groups Use Modern Technology to Spread Spiritual Messages

Over the past few years, the prevalence of high-tech communications has continually reminded us that religion and technology can co-exist peacefully, and even help each other out from time to time.
Ever since 1455, when Johann Gutenberg’s printing press was used to mass produce the Bible, religious groups have been keen on using new technologies in their never-ending quest to spread a message. Services like the Bible Society of Australia’s SMSBible, and the inspirational text messages offered by the Vatican, have proven that wireless technology is yet another viable method of bringing religion to the masses.
Podcasting is another medium that has been used by a number of spiritual groups to spread their various messages. Podcast Alley, a popular digital audio portal, currently has a total of over 2,100 religious/inspirational titles listed in its directory, and that number is growing with each passing day. The category is frequented by not only Christians, but also Jews, Hindus, and followers of numerous other faiths, illustrating the internet’s ability to bridge the gap between conflicting belief systems.
All in all, it appears that modern communication is becoming an important tool for the major – and not so major – religions of the world to spread their teachings to virtually anyone who’s willing to listen.
