The Archos 604 portable media player has recently gained a handy new feature, namely integrated Wi-Fi technology, making it possible for users to access the internet wirelessly when inside a hotspot or home media network.

When used in conjunction with a Local Area Network, the 604-WiFi an transfer music and multimedia files directly to and from a compatible PC or Mac computer, or act as a bridge through which to play back PC content using a television screen. It functions as a drive on a home network, and can be used as a DVR or camcorder when equipped with the correct accessories.

The 604-WiFi’s slim and light design includes a 4.3-inch color touchscreen display, easy-to-use on-screen menus, and a spacious 30GB hard drive capable of storing approximately 130 hours of TV programming, 25 DVD-resolution movies, 15,000 digital music files, or 300,000 photos.

Being a technology leader is a priority for Archos, and we’ve introduced many firsts in the portable media category, including the world’s first portable video player in 2003,” commented Archos’ Chief Operations Officer, Larry Smith. “The Archos 604-WiFi allows us to continue that tradition by bringing together the benefits of Internet access with portable entertainment in a truly open device for consumers.”

“Unlike other video players, Archos supports open standards, making it easy for all consumers to play any content, whether it’s from the PC or Mac, Internet or TV, DVD player or cable box, and enjoy all their media in one portable player,” Smith explained.

This useful new multimedia and entertainment device is now available in the Canadian market at a cost of C$499.99, with camcorder and DVR accessories being sold separately for US$149.99 and US$99, respectively.
