U.S. telecommunications giant, AT&T Inc., has just signed a distribution deal with media giant, NBC Universal, to carry a wide range of both regular and high-definition NBC programming on its U-verse IPTV service.
The agreement covers linear television content from CNBC, MSNBC, Telemundo, mun2, Bravo, the Sci-Fi Channel, numerous other sources, as well as Video On Demand rights to the theatrical movies owned by Universal Pictures.
NBC Universal Cable’s senior vice president of affiliate sales commented that his company will be delivering “diverse, quality programming” to AT&T’s U-verse fiber optic television subscribers.
U-verse is an important part of AT&T’s Project Lightspeed initiative, which will see advanced broadband services rolled out to 19 million U.S. households by the end of 2008.
