Verizon Communications has teamed up with chipmaker, Intel, to launch a new service that lets customers play PC-based games on their television sets.
The service makes use of Intel’s Viiv technology, designed to extend the popular chipmaker’s reach into new facets of the consumer electronics market.
“You can play the games on your TV set by connecting the TV to the PC,” commented Verizon spokesman, Bobbi Henson. “We have hundreds of games on our system. We’ve taken 40 of them and optimized them for Viiv.”
Customers must have a Viiv-equipped Personal Computer running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to make use of the new service, which costs $9.95 in monthly subscription charges.
