America’s second largest telecom carrier, Verizon Communications, has announced its intentions to offer fiber optic cable television services in Western Pennsylvania.

The company will make a multimillion-dollar investment in new infrastructure and equipment for the region, according to Verizon spokesman, Lee Gierczynski. FiOS television service will also be available in the Philadelphia metropolitan area in the not-too-distant future, although an exact data for that launch has not yet been set.

By bringing its IPTV video services into new markets, Verizon is purposefully intensifying competition with cable giant, Comcast, and other traditional cable TV providers.
