Chicago-based VoIP software developer, BridgePort Communications, has just received another $13 million in venture capital funding, bringing total investment in the company to $51 million.

The funding all came from existing investors, which include TD Capital Ventures, Polaris Venture Partners, General Catalyst Partners, and BCE Capital.

As for now the newfound funding will be used, BridgePort’s president and CEO, Mike Mulica, says that the company has “largely completed its product and [software] development phases, and is midway through its channel development … with several major relations already in place.”

BridgePort’s software is currently being used by Net2Phone and VeriSign to host their internet telephone services, and the company is negotiating potential deals with Bell Canada, Time Warner Cable, and China Unicom. The $13 million venture capital will prove useful during the company’s “scale-up phase,” in 2007 and 2008, Mulica said.
