There’s no doubt about it; the appeal of smartphones has spread far beyond the business market, as new handheld communication devices like the Motorola Q and forthcoming BlackBerry Pearl increasingly target ordinary consumers.

The general consumer market is beginning to demand different features from smartphones, prompting manufacturers to put more emphasis on features like music, multimedia, gaming, and entertainment.

As consumers around the world purchase these high-end, multi-purpose mobiles, analysts are expecting the smartphone market to show growth of 66% this year alone, and account for up to 12% of all mobile device shipments in 2007.
