Trade Commission Upholds Patent Ruling Against Qualcomm

The U.S. International Trade Commission has upheld its ruling that wireless chipmaker, Qualcomm, infringed on five of Broadcom’s patents.
The Commission hasn’t yet determined an appropriate remedy for the infringement, but has so far stopped short of ordering a stop to the shipment of any Qualcomm products.
Before resolving this issue, the Commission plans to consult with executives from both companies, in hopes of finding a mutually acceptable solution.
This is only one of many intellectual property battles going on between the two companies, which are bitter rivals in the CDMA wireless technology market. At this point in time, Broadcom has accused its San Diego-based competitor of violating 18 of its patents, while Qualcomm has accused Broadcom of 10 infringements.
