As Cingular achieves runaway success selling the new BlackJack email device, its leading competitor Verizon Wireless is determined not to be left out in the cold, and is reportedly planning to launch its own Samsung smartphone in the new year.

The forthcoming Samsung i760 will feature EV-DO mobile data access, built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a Windows Mobile (Crossbow) operating system.

Design-wise, it will have an integrated keypad and directional keys, as well as a sliding keypad, slim form factor, and built-in 1.3-megapixel digital camera.

The new device is expected to be released sometime in the second quarter of 2007. No word yet on Verizon’s pricing strategy.
