Apple Releases Software Fix for Wi-Fi Security Flaw
7:00 am on January 29, 2007 | Category: Wireless Technology, Wi-Fi, Software
Apple Inc. released an important software update late last week, to deal with a security hole in its AirPort wireless networking product.
The problem was first pinpointed back in November, when it was discovered that attackers could use this flaw to target vulnerable Apple laptops with malicious data over a Wi-Fi network. Intel Core Duo-based versions of the Mac mini, MacBook, and MacBook Pro computers could potentially be affected.
“An attacker in local proximity may be able to trigger a system crash by sending a maliciously crafted frame to an affected system,” Apple said in its most recent security alert.
The AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001 can be downloaded via the Mac OS X Software Update feature, or at Apple’s website.
