America’s largest telecom provider, AT&T, is hoping to cash in on advertising, across a number of different media, revealed the company’s CEO, Edward Whitacre in an interview yesterday with the Wall Street Journal.
Beginning in the early part of this year, marketers will be able to buy advertising on AT&T’s broadband and U-verse fiber optic television services. The advertising service will be extended to reach mobile phones later in the year, and is expected to generate several billion dollars in revenue over the next give years, Whitacre said.
AT&T’s decision to offer mobile advertising comes shortly after its leading competitors, Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel announced plans to do the same.
