The UK’s lading wireless operators; including O2, Vodafone, Orange, and T-Mobile; are competing for the exclusive right to sell Apple’s iPhone device when it comes to Britain later this year.

O2, which is owned by Spain’s Telefonica, has reportedly held preliminary talks with Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, about carrying the revolutionary iPod cell phone, and other competitors will likely be right on its heels.

Apple is thought to be seeking exclusive nationwide contracts with carriers around the world, so as to maintain as much control as possible over the iPhone’s sales, marketing, and customer service.
