The Fox News Channel has begun specifically targeting mobile phone users for the first time, by making a live audio feed of the channel’s on-air broadcasts available over the wireless airwaves.

This service will be available exclusively to Cingular Wireless customers, at a cost of $2.99 per month. It is being powered by technology from Single Touch Interactive, a privately held California firm that specializes in the development of wireless applications.

Cingular subscribers can access the Fox service by dialing #FOXN (#3696) on their handsets.

In addition to the live feed, it is also possible to receive business and weather headlines on demand, as well as a reminder when one of your favorite Fox News programs is about to begin.

“We’re excited to offer Fox News viewers a revolutionary new way to access the number one cable news channel,” remarked the Fox News Channel’s vice president of Digital Media Sales, Jeremy Steinberg, in a statement.
