Intel Unveils 802.11n Wi-Fi Chips for Centrino Laptops

Intel Corp. has unveiled its latest generation of wireless broadband chips, aimed at improving the ability of Centrino Duo-based laptops to download music and video over the web.
Intel’s new wireless chips are based on the 802.11n draft specification, which transmits data at up to five times the speed and twice the range of older Wi-Fi technologies. Although this specification hasn’t yet been fully standardized by the IEEE, several technology and consumer electronics companies have already began using it in their products.
The new Wi-Fi chip will ultimately replace the older 802.11a/b/g standards as the wireless component to Intel’s Centrino hardware platform.
