People who watch television on their mobile devices primarily do so at home, according to a new consumer study conducted in Stockholm this fall.

About two-thirds of all mobile TV usage takes place in the home, especially between 7:00 and 8:00 in the morning, and from 5:00 until 10:00 PM. On average, viewers remain tuned in for approximately 30 minutes at a time. The study determined that news reports and documentaries are among the most popular types of mobile television content.

“The test shows that there is considerable interest in and demand for mobile TV,” commented researcher, Indra Asander, of TeliaSonera Sweden. “The test users have really appreciated the freedom that comes with having full control over a personal TV. With mobile TV, you no longer need to stress about getting home in time to watch a specific program.”

In terms of billing expectations, the study found that most customers were okay with the idea of paying for wireless television services, but that most prefer a fixed monthly fee as opposed to a pay-per-use or minute-by-minute billing model.
