Microsoft and Nortel Networks rolled out three new enterprise communication products this week, as part of their deal to collaborate on the development of integrated IP communications solutions for business customers.
The newly launched products include a Unified Messaging platform, UC Integrated Branch exchange, and a new piece of conferencing software that adds Nortel Multimedia Conferencing features to Microsoft Office Communicator 2007.
The partnership between Nortel and Microsoft was first announced in July 2006 and aims to generate about $1 billion in revenue for the two companies over a four-year period. The software giant and networking manufacturer plan to work together on integrating a number of business communication solutions, including email, instant messaging, voice services, and IP video conferencing.
This movement into the enterprise convergence market will pit the Microsoft-Nortel partnership against other big-name competitors such as Cisco Systems, IBM, and Avaya.
