Bell Canada’s mobile phone unit launched a new wireless entertainment service this week, allowing 3G cellular subscribers to watch pay-per-view movies over the airwaves.

Mobile Movies as the service is called, requires a compatible 3G handset, a Bell Mobility Fun Bundle subscription, and a special downloadable software application for playing movies. Phones capable of running Mobile Movies include the LG 550, Sany 7500, and Samsung models a900, a920, and m500.

Movie rentals start at $5.99, and can be viewed an unlimited number of times within a set rental period, which ranges from 24 hours to a week depending on the title selected.

Using the aforementioned software application from Bell, customers can take advantage of a number of VCR-style capabilities, including a pause command and buttons to rewind and fast-forward by chapter.
