Deutsche Telekom’s wireless unit, T-Mobile, isn’t ruling out a move into emerging markets, but says it’s primary focus will remain on Europe and the U.S., according to a interview published by FOCUS magazine.

“Our first priority is Europe and the US. That does not mean we are ruling out looking for growth opportunities elsewhere,” T-Mobile CEO, Hamid Akhavan, was quoted as saying.

There has been plenty of speculation about acquisitions in emerging markets ever since Vodafone bought a 67% stake in Indian mobile phone giant, Hutchison Essar.

Akhavan also revealed that T-Mobile is open to partnerships with other wireless companies, but said he doesn’t see the carrier spinning off any of its major networks in the near future.
