Britain’s newest quad-play communications provider, Virgin Media, has signed a key content deal that will bring a number of hit HBO television shows to the UK market.

Virgin Media subscribers will soon be able to view HBO series like “The Sopranos,” “Six Feet Under,” and “Band of Brothers” through Virgin Media’s Video On Demand service.

“We are making a serious investment in the range of on-demand programmes we offer and HBO has a reputation for producing some of the most original and entertaining shows of recent years,” commented Virgin’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ernie Cormier, in a statement.

Customers who subscribe to the Virgin TV XL package gain access to 129 channels, plus an enormous VOD library of comedy and drama programming, music videos, and over 500 movie titles. The package costs just £31.50 per month, and includes a built-in local telephone line.

Virgin Media was formally launched last week to compete in Britain’s quad-play entertainment and communications market. It was formed when cable operators, NTL and Telewest, merged with Virgin Mobile, a popular UK wireless provider.
