Vodafone is aiming to become a leader in the mobile entertainment sector, with a new deal to make YouTube online videos available to mobile phone users.
This service will initially launch in the United Kingdom, and should be extended reach other key European markets in the months to come. Vodafone plans to offer a daily selection of new videos which can be viewed wirelessly or forwarded to other users, as well as the ability to upload movies to YouTube using any compatible mobile phone.
“People want to view and share favourite YouTube videos seamlessly wherever and whenever they want,” explained Steve Chen, the CTO and co-founder of YouTube. “Partnering with Vodafone will accelerate those efforts to serve our loyal YouTube users as well as allow new mobile audiences to enjoy YouTube.”
Vodafone’s Chief Marketing Officer, Frank H. Rövekamp, says that the agreement “further expands the range of Internet services we’re bringing to the mobile, introducing a seamless experience that allows customers to engage with user generated content on the move.”
“Through attracting the most popular internet brands onto Vodafone mobile devices we will continue to ensure our customers can access and share the best entertainment anytime and anywhere,” Rövekamp went on to say.
The British wireless giant also made agreements with MySpace and eBay this week, bringing a new level of advanced social networking and online auction features to the European mobile phone market.
