Revenue from Argentina’s telecommunications sector is expected to grow by 15% this year, according to research by Prince & Cooke, a consultancy based in the South American country.

The growth will be driven driven primarily by mobile telephony and broadband internet services, the research firm’s associate manager, Pablo Tedesco predicted in a recent media interview.

Argentina’s mobile phone market grew 35% in 2006, while ISP revenues were up 37%. The total number of high-speed internet subscribers in the country grew a staggering 83% to end the year at 1.6 million. That figure should reach close to 2.5 million by the end of 2007, due to strong PC sales in the South American nation.

Fixed-line telephone revenues, meanwhile, increased by 4% over the course of 2006, and are expected to show comparable growth this year.
