AT&T Inc. is making its U-verse IPTV offering available on PCs and cell phones, adding a number of special new features to challenge the video services of cable companies.
U-verse subscribers will now be able to access 28 MobiTV channels on their personal computers at an additional cost of $10 per month. The AT&T-branded service will also be available on mobile phones in the future, although no launch data has yet been announced.
AT&T has spent around $5 billion since 2004 on developing its fiber optic broadband and television network, in hopes of diversifying its service portfolio and better competing with cable companies in the triple play telecommunications market.
